The Heart Of Darkness 3: Adam & Eve (& Satan)

Alright so we know the powers of fallen angels now. Now we need to look at what is important. The story of Adam and Eve is paramount to understanding what the nature of this battle is all about. It is why there is evil on earth. However first I need to retell the story of Adam and Eve because we have a lot of perversions of the story.

Adam was a direct creation of God. He knew God and walked with God. Adam also was charged with keeping the garden. This meant he was to guard it. Guard it from what? I find it rather shocking that in the beginning that he had to guard it from something. That is your first clue.

Eve was made from Adam rib. Eve is not a direct creation of God though God still had a hand in making her. Adam would have taught her what God told him. So if God told Adam not to eat the fruit of the knowledge of Good and Evil, you would assume he told Eve the same thing. However we know he did not.

When we see the Serpent with Eve, Eve says something very peculiar. Let’s look…

Now the serpent was more cunning than any animal of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God really said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’”

Genesis 3:1-3 NASB

Did you catch it? She said not to touch the tree. God never said not to touch the tree. Satan had his in. See repeating scripture and Gods words, it is important to know them and not add to them. Adam being worried about Eve he probably told her not to even touch it. This was all the devil needed to have an in.

The serpent said to the woman, “You certainly will not die! For God knows that on the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will become like God, knowing good and evil.”

Genesis 3:4-5 NASB

See, no new tricks. Satan offered Adam and Eve godhood. You see Adam and Eve already knew good. What the did not know was evil. Satan gave evil to Adam and Eve.

Now, what was Satan doing in the garden. It was Adam’s job to protect the garden, to keep it. He was slacking on the job. By allowing Satan to hang around he clearly was not doing his diligence. Now it may be that he was so innocent that he allowed it not really knowing the danger but God told him to keep it. Clearly God instructed him on what he was keeping it from.

 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took some of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves waist coverings.

Genesis 3:6-7

Now Adam and Eve did the first act of religion. They tried to cover their nakedness. They sewed fig leaves together.

Now we see what Satan does to us. He lies to us to get us to do something we should not. Then we try to hide whatever it is that we are doing, even from God. This cycle repeats itself. It is constant and it is repeated.

Now they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 He said, “I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.” 11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree from which I commanded you not to eat?” 12 The man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me some of the fruit of the tree, and I ate.” 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” And the woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Genesis 3:8-13 NASB

I want you to notice this. This is proof that something was different. Adam who loved Eve betrayed her. He blamed her. Then Eve blamed God. Said it was his fault, then placed blame on Satan. You see we often do this as well. Instead of accepting responsibility for our actions and being open about our faults we blame other things. Sometimes even God.

14 Then the Lord God said to the serpent,

“Because you have done this,

Cursed are you more than all the livestock,

And more than any animal of the field;

On your belly you shall go,

And dust you shall eat

All the days of your life;

15 And I will make enemies

Of you and the woman,

And of your offspring and her Descendant;

He shall bruise you on the head,

And you shall bruise Him on the heel.”

Genesis 3:14-15 NASB

He cursed Satan to crawl on his belly. Notice that God did not curse snakes. It is sadly the whole reason why we fell in the first place. Adding to God’s word. We don’t do that. It may seem harmless at the time but later can be quite harmful.

Now God offers a prophecy here. This is a telling of Jesus, when he would come and take all of Satan’s power away. Satan’s power is through the law, he does not have power outside of it. A power which has been stripped away through Jesus’s sacrifice.

There is also another thing. The seed or the woman is Christ. Who is the seed of the Serpent. I will be talking about that as well. But keep that in mind. I will be coming back to that in another study.

16 To the woman He said,

“I will greatly multiply

Your pain in childbirth,

In pain you shall deliver children;

Yet your desire will be for your husband,

And he shall rule over you.”

Genesis 3:16 NASB

Another point, this contention between men and woman is something Satan uses. In man making him weak, selfish, conceded with pride. Instead of what is best for the family he does what is best for himself. Likewise with woman. They stand up and are defiant, selfish, conceded and with pride. I will go more into this when I talk about Feminism and why it create the man no one wants and the woman who is sad and lonely.

17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’;

Cursed is the ground because of you;

With [h]hard labor you shall eat from it

All the days of your life.

18 Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you;

Yet you shall eat the [i]plants of the field;

19 By the sweat of your face

You shall eat bread,

Until you return to the ground,

Because from it you were taken;

For you are dust,

And to dust you shall return.”

Genesis 3:17-19 NASB

Adam was cursed to labor all his life and then he would die. The same goes for Eve. Yet we strive not to work. We strive to live easy lives. The easier the better. This is another thing that Satan uses. Wealth. The ability to do less and yet make more. You see, nothing new.

20 Now the man named his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all the living. 21 And the Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.

Genesis 3:20-21 NASB

God offers the solution to all of the problems. He made Adam and Eve garments of skin. This shows that a sacrifice will be done in order for them to have eternal life. He will take our sins away but we first must trust him. Unashamed and truly trust him. Satan has no power over us but our fear. This is the important thing to remember. No matter what Satan does he cannot defeat God.

Remember this and go in peace. Next time we will be looking into the seed of the serpent, I will give you a hint, demons.
